In honor of Cameroon’s 20th May National Day, we are called to reflect on our Christian duty of national stewardship. As followers of Christ, we must champion justice, unity, stability and lasting peace. Amidst global upheaval, this is our urgent, worldwide mandate. For the Scripture says “We are citizens of heaven” (Philippians 3:20); and “in our union with Christ Jesus he raised us up with him to rule with him in the heavenly world” (Ephesians 2:6). Then by his sacrificial death Christ redeemed us and made us a kingdom of priests to serve our God, and we shall rule on earth.” (Revelation 5:9-10).
1. THE CRISES IN THE NATIONS
Scripture says, “The whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth” (Romans 8:22), and “The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug” (Psalm 9:15). That is why, today, our world is facing a complex web of interconnected crises – heavily dominated by economic instability, geopolitical conflicts, environmental degradation and global displacement. Actually, economic instability is skyrocketing living costs and inflation; and national debts are straining households and public services. At the same time, geopolitical conflicts – national and international tensions, as well as civil conflicts and regional wars – are fracturing peace and security and disrupting supply chains, to fuel hunger and anger all over. Besides, the degradation of the environment is generating extreme weather and natural disasters; and thus, complicating the urgent pursuit of sustainability and human wellbeing. Moreover, prevalent conflicts and hardships have driven unprecedented levels of displaced populations worldwide. This problem of global displacement – spearheaded by refugees and illegal migrants – around the world has now become a tough nut to crack.

2. LET GOD ELECT THE LEADERS
The Call to Divine Stewardship
The root cause of all these disruptions is a global deficit of divine stewardship. The only remedy for these worldly disruptions is to heed the call of Jesus Christ: “Follow me” (John 21:19). As Jesus said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). Here and today, we are called to be the light of the world – applying the truth of the Good News of Jesus Christ to heal our ailing nations and bring order to a hurting world.
Let God Elect the Leaders
When the Apostles needed to replace Judas, they did not rely just on their human wisdom. They prayed, acknowledging that God knows all hearts – then they cast lots for the Lord to choose his servant – Mathias (Acts 1:24-26). Therefore, although democracy is a just system, citizens of heaven must approach democratic voting with spiritual intentionality. Thus, before casting your ballot, lift the candidates up to God in prayer – asking him to reveal his choice. Then close your eyes and draw one candidate by lots, and as you vote, surrender the chosen one to the Supreme Rule in prayer: “O Lord, I cast this vote for the candidate you have chosen. May you use him to lead and bless this nation, Amen” By this act of faith, you submit to God’s sovereignty. When we invite God into our electoral process, we embrace true Christian stewardship. Conversely, when we elect leaders without seeking God’s will, we forfeit our spiritual responsibility. Because all authority is ultimately established by God (Romans 13:1-7). We must commit our leaders to his care – trusting in his divine direction and unmerited graces for their successful stewardship
3. SUPPLICATE AND INTERCEDE
Effective Christian stewardship requires fervent and constant prayer for our nations and leaders. Leading a community is profoundly challenging, and leaders cannot achieve true success without aligning with God’s will (John 15:5, Isaiah 55:8-9). Therefore, Scripture invites us to “seek the peace and prosperity” of the nations where God has destined us to live and to “pray to the Lord for it to prosper, so that we too will prosper.” (Jeremiah 29:7). This call is for us to pray for all civic and spiritual leaders, regardless of their personal faith. This intercession is not just a duty; it is for our own protection. When leaders are guided by divine wisdom, the entire society thrives; but when they fail, the citizens inevitably suffer. Therefore, let us faithfully and passionately support our leaders through prayer. And this is the fulfillment of our sacred calling as stewards of Fatherland..
4. GOD’S CALL TO STEWARDSHIP
In truth, Christian stewardship means actively leading and managing God’s gifts for his glory rather than for personal gain. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, you are called to be a light in your community. Let us renounce the worldly standards (Romans 12:1-2), pray for King Solomon’s wisdom (1 Kings 3:9), and boldly take the steps of spiritual leadership wherever God has placed us (Deuteronomy 28:13). You do not need a high political office to lead. Whether in the public or private sector, you are called to be a light for others to follow – so that your good works will give glory to our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:14-16).
Seeking Divine Wisdom
Our stewardship depends on the power of the Holy Spirit – not on human strength or military might (Zechariah 4:6). When facing complex societal and economic challenges, pray like King Solomon for a discerning heart to govern and distinguish right from wrong (1 Kings 3:9). God granted Solomon unmatched wisdom, wealth, and honor because he prioritized righteous leadership over his own personal interests, security and glamor. So despite all the trials in our environment, we must not conform to the world, but faithfully manage God’s blessings for the betterment of society and for God’s glory. (Romans 12:2).
5. THE ARK OF THE COVENANT
Today, let us draw inspiration from Noah’s obedience to God (Genesis 6–9). Then, we will be able to answer our call to stand as beacons of righteousness and stewardship to actively rebuild our nations – which have been torn by injustice, corruption or conflicts.
A Call to Nation-Building

SUPPORT OUR MISSION | DONATE | #TOGETHER WE CAN DO MORE!
As Christians we are the descendants of Abraham – the father of nations (Genesis 17:5). So we are called to be passionate architects in nation building. Moreover, having been baptized and redeemed by Christ – the Maker of the new and everlasting Covenant – we are also called to be the “Noah” of the present age, to rescue our countries from the floods of corruption, injustices, poverty, conflicts and hardships. (Genesis 6–9). For, today humanity is corrupt just as it was in the times of Noah. But Noah found favor in God’s sight – because he was righteous, unlike the masses. And. God commanded the 600-year-old man to construct a massive vessel called an ark to survive the coming judgment against the sins of that time. (Genesis 7:6).
In view of this testimony can we take a vow of righteousness in our own stewardship?
Yes, we can! Then God will use us as architects of new nations. And in this commitment age does not matter, for Noah was 600 years old when God called him to build the Ark. Also Abraham was 99 years old when God chose him to be the father of nations. Therefore, what really counts is commitment to the national interest, acquisition of divine grace, and obedience to God’s Word – no matter how old you are – “for there is nothing that God cannot do” (Luke 1:37).
Hope and Salvation on the Horizon
Scripture says, “I am putting my bow in the clouds. It will be the sign of my covenant with the world. Whenever I cover the sky with clouds and the rainbow appears, I will remember my promise to you and to all the animals that a flood will never again destroy all living beings.” (Genesis 9:13-15). In the New Testament, Jesus Christ becomes the ultimate sign and Mediator of God’s promise of salvation. The temporary and physical cleansing of the flood is replaced by the eternal cleansing of sin through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the cross (Hebrews 9:15). This cleansing is perpetual in the Eucharistic Sacrifice (Holy Mass) – the memorial of his crucifixion, death and resurrection ({Luke 22:19-20}
Therefore, in the face of the prevailing crises in the nations worldwide we have a handy solution – to submit every crisis or challenge under the Eucharistic Sacrifice – with faith and contrition. Then the Almighty God, will manifest his mercy, power and wisdom through the leaders of nations (1 Corinthians 1:23- 24) – to “take care of the needy” Psalm 9:18), to “settle disputes” (Isaiah 2:4), to “end the wars” (Psalm 46:9), and to “wipe every tear” (Revelation 21:4).
A PRAYER FOR THE LEADERS OF NATIONS
Beloved Catholic Front Community, through the power of the Holy Spirit, let us unite every day and night in fervent prayers of intercession for the leaders of our nations; and in thanksgiving to God. For the Scripture says “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” (1 Timothy 2:1-2).
LET US PRAY:
Almighty God, Creator of all nations, we thank you for the gift of earthly leaders. Guided by Your Holy Word – alive and active in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 – we earnestly lift up H.E. PAUL BIYA, President of Cameroon, and the leaders of all other nations to you – to pour out your superabundant graces upon them. May your divine protection overshadow them, and grant them the wisdom to govern with justice, integrity, and peace. Bless their stewardship so that their legacies may bring you eternal glory, and ultimately reward them with your heavenly Kingdom. We ask this in the holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, and through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary – his Mother and our Mother. Amen.

As Scripture says, “without God we can do nothing” (John 15:5), “but for God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26). So may our prayers find favor with the Almighty God, so that the benefic stewardship of our leaders will bring us lasting peace and prosperity, and that we will pass on to posterity the lasting legacy of our stewardship in the present time; Amen!
